This year the event was fished at the beautiful Borth beach in northwest Wales. Conditions were reasonable for this 4-hour event over low water, with dry weather and a stiff northwesterly wind putting up a ‘messy’ surf. Plenty of flounders were caught, along with a few turbot.
The England ladies won this catch, measure and release event, taking the top four placings. Making up the team were Adele Smith – who finished as top rod for the match – Janet Barnes-Verlinde, Nicky Frewin and Rachael Jarman. Manager John Lintern lent his help and support, and the team is sponsored by Varivas and Colmic Daiwa.
The Welsh squad comprised captain and manager Helen Pearce, Sally Owen, June Howell, Karen Hancox and Pam Worrall, with Denise Collier and Annalise Edwards as reserves. The Welsh ladies are sponsored by TronixPro UK and Tubertini UK.
The event was sponsored by Ammo Baits, who generously provided packs of top-quality frozen mackerel fillets to each competitor, along with fish buckets and car and tackle-box stickers.
All the anglers enjoyed a fun and friendly weekend together, and will meet again in the World Championship in Italy, in August.
