Total Sea Fishing Deputy Editor Roger Mortimore’s recent trip to El Salvador in pursuit of hard-fighting rooster fish has got under his skin.
After a leisurely breakfast we boarded the boat, headed out to sea and drifted over the mark we'd fished a couple of days before.
Andrew and Andy opted for the Super Strike little neck poppers and started casting. It wasn’t long before the air was full of expletives as something big hit Andrew Walker’s lure and began ripping line off the reel.
As he got the fish near the boat we could see it was a big baracuda more than four feet long. Our skipper Rufi made a quick sweep with the gaff and it was onboard.
A few minutes later Andy Garnham had his lure chased by at least six rooster fish, one grabbed hold and set off towards Nicaragua at high speed. Jumps and tail-walks followed. A spectacular fight – check out the video!
