Ireland Take ‘Home’ Gold - 08/07/2010

The Irish team of Shane Gilvarry, Liam Longmore, Liam O’Callaghan, Josie Barrett and Henry Ross, managed by Pat Walsh, completed a memorable victory in this year’s Home Nations Boat Championships, held in Belmullet, Co Mayo, recently.

Despite the absence of previous winners Scotland, it was a great success with more than 20 species of fish recorded from the rich waters off the Irish coastline. This was Ireland’s first win for many years and highlights the slender difference that now exists between the home nations at this level. The final result was: Ireland 888, England 875 and Wales 813. England will host the 2011 event, which will be held in Weymouth.

Thanks must go to sponsors Tronix, Ammo, Swift Tackle, Red Gill, Sakuma, Weymouth Angling, Alderney Angling, Yorkshire Angling, Gemini Tackle and the Roman Group for their support for the teams for this year’s event.
